I got out of our house and tried to listen to where the noise was coming from. That is when I saw Rita, my younger cousin, running down the hill towards our compound. She had a twig that she was waving profusely from east to west. I knew she was in distress, but could not make out what she was trying to say. By this time, everyone had come out of their houses, including grandmother Teresia. Rita never made it to our compound, as we saw her fall down abruptly as she came down the hill. If you are dependent and need to enjoy yourself and not worry about certain things, then carry them from home. You may plan to buy them locally but then why spend extra when you can bring what you need. Such items include; toothbrush, hand sanitizers, torch, camera.

2. Dress appropriately
Africa might be warm, but this is not an opportunity to dress down as most African communities regard dressing down as inappropriate and vulgar. Dress comfortable and blend in with the local communities.

3. Vaccination
According to the country, you are planning to visit, undergo vaccinations as this will ensure that you do not have a visit to a local hospital. The diseases that you are likely to get include; malaria, yellow fever, tetanus, hepatitis A, typhoid, and rabies. If you are vaccinated, then there is no need to be troubled.

4. Get a local guide
Africa has many destinations that are bound to go unnoticed by a tourist thus get a local guide to take you places. You need to enjoy yourself, so ask all the questions, and let the guide be your connection to the local communities and the places you visit.

5. Be friendly
Africa is a land of friendly people, diverse cultures, and exotic food. Being friendly will make your stay comfortable. It will also allow you to have a unique experience interacting with the locals. Your experience will not be complete without photos of the locals, work your charm and charisma around the locals. I will guarantee that you will have the best time of your life.

6. Stay Safe
Africa offers an excellent opportunity to try new things, be it sightseeing, driving around in safari cars enjoying the natural habitat and animals, bungee jumping, sand surfing among others. Learn the art of doing this from the local guide and do not do what you have not been told. The joy of the vacation is to enjoy yourself but do not overdo it.

Yesterday was World Radio Day-13th Feb,this day right here brings fresh memories of my first real job though an attachment at Baraka FM in Mombasa.Back in 2008, it was extremely difficult to get a job or an internship for that matter at such a prestigious radio station.So I approached a certain KTN journalist- Ngumbao who owed me a favor.May God rest his soul.   1. Black Panther She was the firstborn and like all firstborns carried herself with grace and respect. When it was time for meals, she would not be seen rushing with the pack. She left the young ones to eat and have their share. She gave us seven awesome descendants and lost three saying they were God's finest and to him, they went.
