Sheer Shock
It is extremely hard to imagine of a day
when life does not matter. The day she heard about it, she closed her shop and
headed home. She wanted nothing to do with him so she locked herself in her
room. Grace, her mother was worried just for a while, she kept herself busy and
left June to her thoughts. She thought about him all day. His love was
forbidden yet she had been anxious to conquer. She felt like a fool who had
wasted so much time and energy.
She heard footsteps and for a moment closed
her eyes. She did not open them for a long while until she felt her cheeks
soften from the drops. It had been months since her eyes watered and she felt
hopeless. What a shame! A strong woman of great wit and charisma reduced to a caricature
because of him. They came just then, they must have been three women, two had
children straddled on their back. They claimed ownership and June looked at
them in a state of daze. They began fighting amongst themselves, but she would
not have any of that. She stood up and walked out of the house.
She did not hear her mother call out to
her, nothing mattered in that instance. She was so angry mostly at herself for
exposing herself to anguish and heartache. There was a time that her beauty gave
her options. When she could choose money over fame or love over money. Today
she had been stripped of all that. She had become a laughing stock who had no
idea how she could get herself up. It was getting late and she wondered if anyone would care if she disappeared. Perhaps
no one would except her poor mother. She would be lonely and eventually die out
of anguish.
There was one other person who would care.
She would have so many questions for everyone. She would miss that love that
she was trying to escape from. She massaged her womb and felt the rush of blood.
She was willing to live just for her. She was not interested in him anymore.
They could have him, she no longer cared. She took out her wedding ring just
then and threw it into the river. She watched as the water rushed on with no
interest in her affairs. How she wished that she could submerge herself into it
and disappear. She was too tired and sank low into the grass. What a wasted life!
